I have a Carrier Heating/Air conditioner in a smallish appartment. It uses both electric and R22 for heating and is called a “two-stage” unit. Is the first stage the electric element? And the second the R22 picking up the heat and sending it thru the fan coil?

I don’t know. If you call a tech, they might not be able to work on it because it’s R-22 which I believe might be banned in Cali.

sounds like you have a heat pump the first stage is heat pump the second is your heating strips if you have a mercury t-stat you will see when the first one engages then you turn the t-stat a little warmer you will see the other bulb engage if digital you will have a light that tells you your strips are on as far as your pressure 265/68.5 is normal but you need to know sub coolant and superheat ambient call a tech
